Emergency Campaign to Support Higher Education - National Organizing Director
Title: National Organizing Director
Salary Range: $120,000 - $140,000
Reports to: National Campaign Director
Location: Remote with extensive travel
Start: As soon as possible
SUMMARY
About: The Emergency Campaign to Support Higher Education is a grassroots movement of students, alumni, community leaders, faculty, and staff organizing to defend and expand access, autonomy, and excellence in higher education. The attack on colleges and universities is an attack on the foundations of a free society—a calculated power grab aimed at undermining social, racial, and economic justice. No institution can withstand the pressure alone. The best answer is a unified national grassroots campaign to defend the autonomy of colleges and universities while fighting to make higher education more accessible, affordable, and relevant.
Our goal is to build a national movement to push campus leaders and public officials to:
- Fight for federal and state policies to make higher education affordable and accessible to working families
- Champion the role of higher education in a strong, inclusive, and democratic society
- Oppose cuts to student aid and research funding that would undermine local economies and put post-secondary education out of reach of many young people
- Resist federal political meddling in teaching, research, admissions, and hiring
We will work to build (or connect existing) organizing teams for each pillar on every campus. And we will support these teams in coordinating to build power at their institutions and drive a national campaign to expand access to higher education rather than shrinking it, to protect the vital role colleges and universities play in making the U.S. a prosperous and democratic society.
The Opportunity: We need a skilled organizer and manager to lead the internal coordination of our multi-sector coalition. The person in this role will balance strategic planning with the hands-on management of organizers. They will manage the campaign organizers to ensure the implementation of our organizing program. They will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the campaign.
